I adore cooking for all of my loved ones, and my family pets are no exception. I love baking these homemade dog training treats and seeing how happy it makes them!

It makes me feel especially good knowing that they’re eating healthy treats made with wholesome ingredients (with no nasty filler ingredients).

How to make easy homemade dog treats with peanut butter, banana, and oats:

This homemade peanut butter dog treats recipe is so easy! Your dog will love you for making it. You’ll love how happy it makes them and how easy it is to prepare.

This recipe requires only three ingredients (not including water). Be sure to use natural unsalted peanut butter. When you read the label, peanut butter should the only ingredient.

To start, grind the oats into an oat flour in your blender. The finer the better, but the treats will turn out well even if your flour is coarse. I like to grind up a little extra oat flour to dust the ball of dough (it makes it easier to roll out).

Next, mash a ripe banana in a bowl with a fork. Add in the peanut butter and hot water. Stir until the ingredients are well combined. Add in the oat flour and stir to mix.

Sprinkle the extra oat flour over the ball of dough and roll it out between two pieces of parchment paper. You want the dough to be about 1/4″ thick. Cut the dough into your desired shape using either a cookie cutter or a knife.

Bake, let cool, and watch your dogs eyes light up when they realize you baked for them!

What you’ll need:

While you don’t technically need this, these are infinitely more fun to make with these awesome little bone shaped cookie cutters for dogs. I love this set because it’s affordable and comes with three different sized cutters. That comes in especially handy if you have dogs of varying sizes.

Something else that can improve these dog cookies is a silicone baking mat. If you want particularly crispy treats, I’d definitely recommend using one. In general, silicone baking mats create a much crispier and more dry texture than parchment paper.

Can I freeze homemade dog treats?

Yes! You can store completely cooled treats in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 6 months. Just be sure to allow the treats to thaw for 10-20 minutes before giving any to your dog.

How long do homemade dog treats stay fresh?

There are a lot of factors that play into this. These treats aren’t made with oil, butter, or meat, so they tend to last longer than other dog treat recipes.

In order for them to stay fresh as long as possible, store them in an airtight container with a paper towel in it (to soak up any extra moisture). You’ll want to be sure to let them cool completely before storing them, or the heat will create condensation inside the container which can lead to mold.

If you don’t want to freeze them, the next best option would be to store them in the refrigerator. This is especially recommended if you’re in a hot and humid climate.

While some sources say that crunchy homemade dog treats like these can last up to a couple of months (assuming they’re stored correctly), I only recommend storing these for 7-10 days. If you bake them for less time (so that they’re softer for older pets), they won’t last as long.
