This quick and easy recipe makes the best ever garlic bread in the air fryer! You’ll love this air fryer garlic bread – it’s golden brown, super flavorful, and has a perfectly crispy crust with a soft interior.
Air Fryer Garlic Bread
This homemade garlic bread in the air fryer is so good! It’s coated in an easy garlic butter that tastes absolutely delicious.
I love adding a bit of parsley and olive oil to my garlic butter. The parsley adds a fresh taste and a beautiful pop of color, and the olive oil makes the texture of the garlic butter smooth and so easy to spread.
The homemade garlic butter is spread onto fresh slices of baguette. As it cooks, it soaks into the bread and infuses it with so much flavor while the top gets perfectly golden-brown. There’s also an optional layer of Parmesan cheese, and it really does add a delicious layer of flavor.
This air fryer garlic bread recipe cooks quickly, but the interior is soft and the exterior is crispy. It really is the perfect quick and easy side dish to serve with family dinner.
Ingredients
Baguette: I like using a baguette from the grocery store. The crust isn’t too hard, so you get the perfect combination of a slightly crispy exterior and a perfectly soft interior. I don’t recommend using fancy artisan bakery baguette. The crusts of those tend to be really hard, and will be too crispy after you cook it in the air fryer.
Unsalted Butter: This is the base of our garlic butter, which both seasons the bread and adds fat so that the garlic bread turns perfectly golden brown as it cooks. It also adds a rich and creamy flavor. I like using unsalted butter because it allows me to control how salty I’d like the garlic butter to be.
Garlic Cloves: Using fresh garlic is crucial to this recipe. It adds the strong, aromatic flavor that garlic bread is known for. If you use jarred garlic the results will be much less flavorful.
Fresh Parsley: This adds a fresh flavor and a beautiful pop of color.
Olive Oil: Using olive oil in the garlic butter for garlic bread is one of my favorite tips. It makes the herb and garlic butter easy to spread across the bread, so it spreads evenly.
Salt and Pepper: Salt enhances the flavor of the other ingredients, and the spice in pepper balances out the richness of the butter.
Parmesan Cheese: Parmesan is optional, but it adds a delicious, salty, nutty, umami flavor to the garlic bread.
Alternative Ingredients
- Bread: I prefer using baguette for garlic bread, but you can also use any sort of crusty white bread. Just make sure you look for a loaf that doesn’t have too hard of a crust. Ciabatta or sourdough are both great alternatives. If you prefer softer bread you could use Texas toast, English muffins, or even crumpets.
- Flavor: Try adding some oregano or fresh basil to the garlic butter mixture for more flavor. If you like a little heat, feel free to add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper.
- Cheese: If parmesan is too salty for you, try using freshly grated mozzarella or cheddar instead to make cheesy garlic bread.
How To Make Garlic Bread In The Air Fryer
Slice the bread: Slice your baguette into 1-inch thick pieces, cut on a bias for longer, angled slices that can hold more garlic butter. (See the recipe card below for the full printable instructions.)
Make the garlic butter: In a mixing bowl, combine your softened unsalted butter, minced garlic, finely chopped fresh parsley, olive oil, fine sea salt, and ground black pepper.
Butter the bread: Spread a generous amount of the garlic butter mixture onto one side of each bread slice. If you want to use the optional Parmesan cheese, sprinkle some on top of the buttered slices.
Preheat the air fryer: Preheat the air fryer for a few minutes. Once it’s preheated, place your buttered slices of bread in the basket in a single layer, butter side up. Make sure they’re not overlapping so they can cook evenly. You may need to cook your bread in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
Air fry: Cook the garlic bread in the air fryer. Keep a close eye on it to make sure it doesn’t burn. It’s ready when it’s golden brown and crispy. See the recipe card below for the full written instructions, including ingredient amounts, cooking times, and helpful tips, etc.
Pro Tips
- Use Fresh Ingredients: Using fresh parsley and fresh garlic will add so much more delicious flavor. You can use jarred minced garlic or dried parsley flakes in a pinch, but the flavor just won’t be quite as good.
- Slice the Bread Evenly on a Bias: In order for the slices of garlic bread to cook evenly, it’s important to cut them into even slices. Make sure each slice is roughly the same thickness. Also, cutting the bread on a bias gives you more surface area per slice to cover with garlic butter, which adds tons of flavor.
- Don’t Skimp on the Butter: Not only does the garlic butter add so much flavor, it also adds the fat needed to create the delicious, crispy, golden-brown crust.
- Keep an Eye on the Bread: Since different air fryers can vary a bit with cooking speeds and temperatures, I recommend keeping an eye on the garlic bread. It doesn’t take very long to cook and can go from perfectly golden-brown to burnt relatively quickly.
- Add Parmesan for Extra Flavor: Sprinkling parmesan on top is totally optional, but it adds a really delicious layer of flavor.
How Long Does It Take To Cook Garlic Bread In An Air Fryer?
It should only take about 3-5 minutes to cook garlic bread in an air fryer. The time varies a bit based on how thick you slice the bread and what temperature you set the air fryer to.
How Long Does It Take To Reheat Garlic Bread In An Air Fryer?
It should only take 1-2 minutes, but check it after 1 minute. Since it’s already been cooked, you need to keep a close eye on it to make sure it doesn’t burn or dry out.
Why Is My Garlic Bread Not Crispy?
- You Didn’t Use Enough Butter: The butter doesn’t just add flavor, it also helps the bread get perfectly golden-brown, so I wouldn’t skimp on it.
- The Air Fryer is Overcrowded: If there’s no space between the slices of bread, the air won’t have room to circulate, which helps crisp the bread.
- You Used a Different Type of Bread: If you use a really soft type of bread, it won’t crisp up as well as a baguette does.
Storing Leftovers
Let the leftover slices cool, then wrap it tightly in aluminum foil (or store it in an airtight container), and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Can You Freeze Garlic Bread?
Yes! To freeze garlic bread, let it cool first. If you plan to freeze the garlic bread for more than a couple of weeks, wrap each piece in aluminum foil individually. Place the wrapped slices in a freezer-safe bag and squeeze out as much air as possible. Freeze for up to 2 months.
