This Twisted Bacon Recipe is the latest viral TikTok trend, and it’s easy to see why! It’s an easy way to cook bacon that makes the best combination of crispy and chewy bacon you’ve ever had. Try it for yourself!
Twisted Bacon Recipe
This recipe will have you questioning everything you thought you knew about cooking bacon. It’s easy, you don’t have to deal with any splattering grease, and it’s SO. DANG. GOOD.
It’s chewy meets crispy in all the best ways, and every bite is delicious. Since the bacon gets twisted around, the inside of the twist holds onto some of the fat, which is what makes it both crispy and chewy.
Better yet, since the only ingredient you need is thick-cut bacon, you probably have everything you need in your fridge already. I’d recommend sticking with thick-cut bacon instead of regular bacon – the thicker cut gives it time to cook on the inside before it burns on the outside.
Try pairing it with Oven Fried Eggs (both recipes use the same temperature, so you can easily cook them at the same time!), or serve it with my favorite Egg in a Hole Bagel Recipe. This would also be perfect served with your Sunday brunch Bloody Mary.
How To Line The Baking Sheet
You can line the baking sheet one of two ways. If you have a rimmed baking sheet with a baking rack that fits on top, I’d recommend lining the tray with aluminum foil and then putting the baking rack on top of the lined baking sheet. This is the preferable method because the bacon will get a little crispier.
If you don’t have a baking sheet with a matching baking rack, use a regular rimmed baking sheet and line it with parchment paper. You’ll want to let the bacon rest on a paper towel lined plate after baking if you cook it this way (to absorb some of the excess grease).
How To Make It
It really couldn’t be any simpler. Just twist the bacon, bake it, flip the bacon halfway through, and finish cooking it in the oven. The only trick is to decide how tightly you want to twist the bacon.
The viral version of this recipe twists the bacon really tightly so that it holds together as a chewy stick after it bakes. I tested it this way and also tested it with a slightly looser twist, and I actually preferred the slightly looser twist like I show in the video. With a little bit of a looser twist it was less chewy (in a good way), and more moist and tender.
Make It In The Air Fryer
If you don’t want to turn the oven on, try making this in the air fryer! One main difference is that you’ll only be able to cook a few pieces at a time and you don’t want the bacon to be too crowded.
You can cook twisted bacon in the air fryer at 375 F for 8 – 10 minutes (depending on the type of air fryer you have and how crispy you like your bacon). A quick note: I’ve only tested twisted bacon in the air fryer using the looser twist, so you may need to cook it a little longer if you use the tighter twist.
Optional Flavor Additions
Want to kick it up a notch? Try playing with some different bacon flavors. Some fun ideas are:
- Try adding some of the sugar and spice seasoning blend from this Copycat Honey Baked Ham Recipe.
- Brown sugar always tastes great with bacon.
- Maple syrup and chipotle powder make the perfect smoky sweet combo.
- Add a little spice by mixing sriracha with a bit of oil and either some honey or maple syrup.
- Cinnamon sugar is a classic flavor that would taste amazing on bacon.
If you’re going to add dry rub flavors, you can add those before baking. It’s a little different with wet flavors though. To add one of those flavors, it’s best to pull the bacon out of the oven 5 minutes before it’s finished cooking, and then brush it on with a pastry brush. Pop it back in the oven and bake it for the last 5 minutes.

Twisted Bacon Recipe
This Twisted Bacon Recipe is the latest viral TikTok trend, and it’s easy to see why! It’s an easy way to cook bacon that makes the best combination of crispy and chewy bacon you’ve ever had. Try it for yourself!
Ingredients
- 2 pounds thick-cut bacon
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 F (176 C).
- Line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil and place the baking rack on top of the lined baking sheet.
- Tightly twist each slice of bacon, and lay it on top of the baking rack.
- Bake for 20 minutes, then remove from the oven (but leave the oven on). Use tongs to flip the bacon twists, and bake for the remaining 20 - 30 minutes (or until it’s cooked and lightly browned).
Notes
If you don’t have a baking sheet with a baking rack, line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper instead of aluminum foil.
If you’re using thick-cut bacon, 40 minutes in the oven should be perfect. If you’re using extra thick-cut bacon, you’ll probably need to bake it for an extra 10 minutes.
Even though this recipe is written using 2 pounds of bacon, feel free to make as much or as little as you like! 2 pounds is about the max that will fit on a standard half sheet baking sheet though.

I want to make these in advance for a party. Would they warm up well?
I haven’t tried reheating this recipe, but since bacon normally reheats well I think it would work out. Hope that helps! -Alexa
